Open Spaces

Product Design: Creating dev-ready app designs

Open Spaces is the AirBnb for creative workspaces.

We created development-ready designs and documentation for the Open Spaces iOS app. Our goal was to bring the magical convenience of a platform like AirBnB to the cumbersome process of booking a craft space (like a pottery studio).

Market: Proptech

Type: iOS App

Stage: Seed

Discovery

In our first session, we get caught up on your existing vision or help you articulate one.

We also capture preferences for the look and feel of the product.

Deliverables include a mood board and initial color schemes, along with project schedule and other housekeeping tasks.

Market Research

Research includes evaluating and sizing the market in the scope of the opportunity, analyzing competing products in the space, and identifying strategic fit: where a new product or feature set can add undeniable value for users.

Research is documented in the Product Requirements Document (PRD).

TOOLS USED
Online data sources like BLS, industry reports, and news.

User Personas

This exercise helps illuminate key user needs, behaviors, and goals that underpin product decisions.

Thorough documentation of user personas guides design decisions and helps intrinsically communicate product goals to developers and other team members later in the product development process.

TOOLS USED
Online data sources like BLS, industry reports, and news.

Feature Scoping

After brainstorming potential features, we guide you through identifying key feature narratives. Features are prioritized at the beginning of the design process and revisited at the end for a second iteration.

This process creates a list of design tasks and lays the groundwork for the user stories created for the development backlog.

Journey Map UX Flow

The user journey map is an important tool used to identify the biggest pain points or challenges in the user’s journey through the app.

It later serves as documentation developers can use to understand a user’s intended happy path and alternative paths through the application.

Wireframes

We create mid-fidelity non-functional prototypes of key user flows.

These prototypes showcase UX and feature decisions and can be used to collect feedback from members of your team, test with customers, or pitch to investors.

Graphics

We produce high-fidelity graphics of key screens and flows, including custom illustrations and art.

Combined with wireframes, this gives us a full visualization of the new features or application.

Design System

Our design system is more than just a component library in Figma.

We include both assets and documentation for the styles, reusable components and patterns used in your application, along with the corresponding CSS and JS code.

Backlog Generation

At the end of the process, we generate a seamless development backlog using the priorities and user journeys captured.

Design assets are linked to each development task so that the dev team receives clear and complete instructions and is set up for success.
